Making the switch to Face Oils: a natural skincare option for healthy hydrated skin

What are Face Oils?

You probably have been hearing more and more about Face Oils over the past few years as the natural skincare movement has grown exponentially, but what are Face Oils??

Quality face oils are made of a blend of cold-pressed, unrefined oils high in a variety EFAs to replicate the composition of the naturals oils on our skin. High quality face oils may contain an antioxidant to prolong shelf-life, but they should not contain any additives or preservatives. Botanical elements can be infused into the oils for added nutritive benefits, but no plant material should be visible in the finished oil.

Face Oils are used topically to mimic the lipid matrix in the outermost layer of our skin. This outer layer creates a protective barrier between the skin and the outside world. This barrier not only helps protect the skin from external stressors (think environmental factors like heat, wind, dry air, etc), it also helps the skin hold in moisture and supports the natural micro biome of the skin surface.

Water is also essential to healthy skin. Because face oils are simply a blend of oils infused with nutrient-dense botanicals, they are best used in combination with a water-based element to improve absorption. Pure hydrosols are best used to provide this water element in combination with face oils. Hydrosols, which are distilled aromatic waters, are able to penetrate the skin into the deepest cellular levels. When the skin is properly hydrated, Face Oils are better able to nourish and protect the skin surface. Layering these two skincare products provides increased moisture retention and ensures maximum absorption for vibrant, and well-nourished skin.

My current favorite combo is our Sweet Violet Face Oil + First Light Hydrosol for a little blemish reduction and moisture balancing with all the floral goodness of rose geranium and chrysanthemums! To shop our skincare line click here.
